My son is 8 months old, he holds his ears and cries. We've taken him to the doctor and the doc said he doesnt have an ear infection.. She said he's just teething. But he already has 4 teeth and he didnt cry this much.. What else could it be? He has no fever and he shows no signs of anything abnormal. Please help.

well, babies and kids are known to hurt themselves to block out other painful things... this is a long shot, but i just wanted to add a different answer than what you've already gotten. If parents are fighting or even physical pain, like teeth coming in, can cause a kid to distract themselves somehow, possibly playing or pulling their ears. Just a thought. Good luck! And get a second opinion! :)

It is possible he could be getting molars in, which are much more painful than the other teeth, and generally take longer. Does he cry as though he is in pain? or just upset? It is good to hear he has seen the doctor, but if it isn't stopping, you should take him back in and ask for some other possibilities aside from an ear infection. it is possible for babies to get headaches, although I don't know what goes along with it. If you are concerned, talk to you doctor again! and dont feel bad getting a second opinion.

I took my son a couple times when he was teething case i thought he had a ear ache too. My doc said sometimes you can't tell right away so maybe it wouldn't hurt to go again in case you went to soon and missed the signs. My son did the same thing though but it was just his teeth. There was one time he had teething coming in that was way worse though, he cried for 2 hours straight. So it could be just his teeth too.

Same thing happened to my daughter at a year old. The first doctor missed the ear infection. If he's screaming that much, it's doubtful that it's only teething. I'd take him in again tomorrow, just to be sure, just for your own peace of mind. In the meantime, tylenol or motrin should help at least a little.

I just went through this same thing, and my daughter has a history of ear problems. She was/is getting her molars in. The other teeth aren't as close to the ear canals either so it wasnt the same w/ other teeth. She is grumpy, not sleeping through the nite any more, generally in a bad mood and acting out even. Poor babies can't talk. I massage her head and the back of her neck and it seems to sooth her. At bathtime she "brushes" her teeth and teeths on her toothpaste w/ Dora toothpaste. In fact, she is very creative when it comes to teething. Most babies are. Give him longish things to chew on that will reach back there like his toothbrush.

You know...some ear infections come on really quickly...esp bacterial ones. SO if the dr checked it and didn't see anything, i'd take him back in 24 or 36 hours to be checked again. By then the redness will be more apparent.

Good luck. Sometimes those molars coming in are a real PITA, so it could be that, but I'd bet that you took him in early enough that there weren't any external signs. Take him back in. Good luck!

It could be teething, sometimes babies play with their ears its true but also when a baby feels pain in their teeth they don't always know it is in their teeth, so they grab their ear because they know something on their head hurts. trying getting some baby abisol to rub on his gums, and also concider a second opnion, my first three doctors where horses asses, remember doctors are people too and they also make mistakes.

Going off my experience with my daughter at that age...she did great with her teething until she got 4 in at once. I didn't understand what was going on until one day they all popped through. I gave her Hyland's tablets to calm her. But if the crying and ear pulling doesn't subside within a few days, another opinion is needed. GL!

It could be swimmers ear although i know a lot of little kids that hold on to their ear for fun, when they are getting ALL of their teeth or just for comfort.

My son did that and he just didn't want to hear anyone, so he covered his ears and screamed to drown everyone out. Maybe he's just going through a phase. Or it could be something serious and the Doctor you take him to hasn't detected anything. If you don't think that's the case take him to see a specialist. Do what your heart tells you to do.
