Look for this book:

Programming in Visual Basic 6.0 by Julia Case Bradley and Anita C. Millspaugh
Published by Irwin McGraw-Hill
ISBN # 0-07-233513-0

I taught myself VB using this book. It's extremely easy to read and follow examples.

The best way is to take a free class online using Microsoft's classes.

They have labs for VB at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/virtuallabs/vbasic/

And they have classes (recorded and live) at
https://msevents.microsoft.com/cui/MyMsEvents.aspx?culture=en-US

Check out http://www.pscode.com for great examples - you can filter for any of several different criteria, too.
