DB,
Get off the scale and see how your clothes fit. You are gaining muscle, which is denser (heavier) than fat.
That's a good thing!

everyone is going to tell you this, but its true. muscle weighs more then fat. and i know from experience this is true. i'm about 5'7 and 130lbs. i dont necessarly need to lose weight, but i like to tone up and everytime i start to work out i gain a few pounds, but i feel so much stronger and in my pictures i look like im skinner. if the scale isnt making you happy when your results you might want to use the tape measure instead. measure your waist, legs, and arms.. even if you gain weight you will see yourself lose inches. another thing... do NOT weigh yourself each day.. only once a week and mark it on the calendar. womens body's lose and gain weight within the same month so compare how much you weigh now with the same week next month. i know i lose/gain about 5 pounds just in the course of a month with no diet or exersice change, its just what i body does. i hope i helped ; )

I agree that the weight gain could be muscle weight. But I want to share with you how I just lost 40 lbs. in 3 mos. I have a yogurt smoothie for breakfast, a fruit at lunch and for dinner I have Lean Cuisine . They are delicious and fresh. Your daily calorie consumption is around 1000 more or less. And don't forget to drink plenty of water. It really works.Occasionally I'll have toast, whole grain for breakfast and oj If you are also exercising, it might come off faster. Good luck!

Muscle weighs more then fat. You can actually stay the same weight or even gain a few pounds but look slimmer. 10lbs of fat takes up more space then 10lbs of muscle. Don't go by weight, go by measurements and how your clothes fit...those are better indications of how well you are doing. Also, the more muscle mass you have the higher your metabolism and the higher your metabolism the more weight you will loose.

Don't worry about this gaining and losing weight while exercising is completely normal, its usually just water weight that can make a difference of up to 5lbs, but if you want a guaranteed way to lose weight you have to make sure that the exercises you are doing are helping you burn more calories than you have previously been burning, without increasing the amount calories you intake.
hypothetical example: if you normally eat 2000 cals a day, and burn 500lb, in order to lose weight you just have to continue to eat 2000 cals a day but try to burn more than 500 cals a day, our you could decrease your cals per day, but some doctors feel like when you decrease you cals per day you encourage your body to hold on to the fat you have as a defense mechanism because it feels like you are trying to kill it, so the best way is to just increase the amount of cals you burn and leave the intake the same.

It might be water weight, or depending on your diet/exercise it might be muscle. Muscle helps burn fat from your body. I know every time I go on a "diet", I gain bout 4-6 lbs, then i start to steadily lose weight. Remember muscle weighs almost twice as much as fat does.

Yes, muscle does weigh more than fat. It is not unusual to gain the first month after starting a fitness program. Give it a month and see what happens next month. I'll bet you will have lost several pounds by next month. Good luck!!

It could be muscle weight. Muscles weighs more than fat so if you lose fat but gain muscle you could possibly weigh a little more. Also, check the labels on what you are eating, it might have hidden fat or calories.

That's because muscle mass weighs more than fat. You are turning fat into muscle by exercising, but it will soon subside and you will start loosing more fat than gaining muscle and then you will see the weight loss.
