First thing your lawyer has to do is keep you hidden until the right moment. You'll be a terrible witness on your own behalf, and if that were personality rather than illness talking in your question, your lawyer would run away. No reason for you to talk about kickbacks or crooks. They're just doing their jobs. They don't know you're disabled, or you wouldn't be posting. You're making a common mistake: you think they're speaking English, in which being disabled means you have illnesses/injuries that won't allow you to make a living. They are speaking Government, and the word "disability" has a different meaning altogether. I'm a bit surprised your lawyer hasn't taught you this. It usually takes multiple appeals to resolve the difference in languages.

I can sympathize - but don't blame it on the doctors. Blame it on the system. Blame on the jerk with a hang nail and a bunion who hasn't worked in 20 years and is trying to get disability. You want to be angry be angry at them - they are the moronic twits making it impossible for people with true disabilities to get the benefits they are entitled to.
The independent medical examiners are under a strict set of guidelines that they have to list what they observe and what percentage of work you can do based on that observation.
Keep your lawyer on their butt - because 9/10 a good lawyer will win - it just takes time. I know that is not much comfort when you are going through what you are.
As far as not operating - you have diabetes and a cardiac condition, the doctors are weighing the risks and the benefits. They might be able to fix the disk, but if you have a heart attack or fail to heal because of the diabetes then you are worse off than when you started.

Please hang in there - don't blame the medical establishment for a system that has been royally ****** up by the lazy SOB's in the world who are backlogging it so bad that the truly disabled are without help.

I had to watch my brother go through this - he lost everything and it broke my heart. Even knowing what I know about the system I wasn't able to speed up the process - and it irritated the hell outta me because the man across the street was "disabled" and hunting, fishing, working on his car, riding his 4-wheeler.....and my brother was being denied while his wife had to help him out of bed every morning and put his shoes on for him.

You can't fault the doctors. The system sets criteria which defines the various stages of disability and psychological disorders are extremely difficult to address using these guidelines.
Your lawyer should be able to advise you on the right course of action. If not, then the problem may lie with him.

I have been in your shoes. It is a waiting game. They are trying to wait you out, they hope you kill yourself of just give up asking for SS disability. They eventually will give it to you. It is just how they play the game. It really sucks. It took me over 2 years before they finally accepted my claim. Just keep trying, they will give in but often you have to wait until a judge in the appeals hearing demands they they give it to you.

Hang in there. Play the game and you will make it. Too bad the disability they will finally give you is not enough to take care of yourself and especially not if you have a family to care for.

sorry, i don't undertand what you're so upset about. none of your aforementioned diseases would prevent you from gainful employment. i know plenty of people with herniated discs who continue to work, and i'm talking about demanding jobs- things like law enforcement, construction work, very physical stuff. jus because you've got mental problems and tried to hang yourself, why should the rest of society bend over backwards to help you out? if you're looking for an excuse to get a free lunch, then i'd have to say that i'm happy those government buraucrats are doing their job. i know i sure as hell wouldn't want my tax dollars supporting someone who just plain didn't want to work.

They probably won't operate you because you are high risk. They could get sued if anything goes wrong and malpractice insurance flies through the roof. It's nothing against you, they are trying to save their behinds.
