Just so you are aware most PC manufacturers place the hardware drivers on a folder on your computer.

If you've reformatted you probably wiped that folder. If the computer was manufactured by IBM, Dell, HP, or Gateway. They have search utilities that will allow you to find the driver for the soundcard in the system. Otherwise you'll have to guess by pulling the card out and looking.

Check the wires and connectiom. Is it connected? Is it properly done? OR if it's not compatible with that certain computer or somthing. Is it old? Do the speakers work or are they broken? Mabye you forgot to turn it on, or mabye I'm just stupid, but I'm pretty sure that checking these things will help.

Usually the drivers should be on one of the cd's, if not go to microsoft update, it is able to detect hardware and give you the option to download drivers if already you do not have the updated one, or do not have one at all. MICROSOFT UPDATE... not windows update, you would have to download microsoft update through windows update if you have not already done so.
