Opposite Of Capitalism

2016-09-30 12:54:11 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

All nations in the world currently have economic systems that are the opposite of capitalism. It's essentially mandatory that if a nation wants to be recognized as a country by other countries, it can not allow capitalism. Capitalism means free-trade without government regulations on business and without redistribution of private wealth (taxing and redistributing or spending the tax revenues on different things).

Anyway, needless to say, it doesn't exist, and many Americans (falsely) claim that the US is capitalist, and that the US is the most free country when it comes to commerce, which is merely a popularly believed lie. The US redistributes far more private wealth than even China does. So that's my answer.

The usual school teacher answer would be that Communism is the opposite of capitalism, because in Communism, the government owns and controls all the property (including businesses) in the country, and in Capitalism, individuals own and control all the property in the country. By that oversimplified definition, most Western countries (North America, Europe, and a lot of other countries all over the world) are Capitalist.

Also, Socialism is the word for the economic system where the government owns and controls some of the property and individuals own and control the rest. Fascism is the one where individuals own the property, but the government controls it. All of these terms are very simplified and pretty much every countries' economic system has various aspects of each.

Capitalism means unfettered trade, and all of the others are its opposite.

If you are dealing with hypothetical, or theoritical definitions, then the other answer are incorrect.

Capitalism is where there is private or corporate ownership of the means of production.

Socialism is where the the government owns the means of production

Communism is where the workers own the means of productions.

If you take a Marxist-Leninist view of communism, then socialism is a middle step in the process to "proletariat" ownership.

The problem is that the Soviet system (just like everything else) fell to the pratfalls of human behaviour, and really, the first step was never fully realized, and therefore, the second and third steps never had a chance.

It is true that Communist Russia was in a situation where the government owned everything, but this was only the first part of a three-step process that was never fully realized.

Just as with our capitalistic system, theirs was not perfect, either! I am not making value judgements here, although I would like to...

With your question, "What is the opposite of capitalism?" I am assuming you are speaking of the theoretical or denotative definition of the term. And in that case, the answer would be Socialism.
