The very best thing I've found that works is an ordinary rubber flip-flop shoe. Really!
Hold it with the sole side down and firmly wipe towards yourself.
You'll be amazed at how much cat hair will come up.

I clean house for a living...two clients have cats...one is a white long hair.
I pick up hand fulls of hair from just one seat cover...
there is a sponge that is manufactured just for removing hair...but it is the same thing as using a cheap flip flop.

Try using a damp ,very damp towel and brush the hair in a circular motion. repeat this until hair is mostly gone and there will be a little to vaccum up. ooh after the first couple of times shake to towel outside or over a large garbage can.

There are rubbery mitts you can buy at a pet shop to groom cats with. You put it on your hand and then pet the cat and the hair comes off in masses.

Although it wasn't meant for it, it also works wonders getting fur off the furniture.

Also as others have mentioned a damp sponge or wash cloth will do it.

Wet a facecloth or paper towel... rub it in one direction across the fabric... as the hair is matted up on the cloth remove and start again. I find that this works way better than a lint remover. I have a big Flamepoint Himalayan. He sheds so much I find little white tumble weed puffs everywhere...
Hope that helps... :-)

Miracle brush. Nowadays they are probably marketed under different names but it is a handle with a fabric pad and the fabric has a nap to it than when you brush in one direction, it picks up the pet hair and then releases when you brush in the other direction. It works really well picking up hair from furniture, carpet and (sigh) beds.

I have a long-hair that sheds so much one would think he would be bald by now.

i use those lint rolls. They work better than a brush and they are a lot easier than wrapping tape around your hand.

Word of warning: if you like to wear black clothes don't get a long-haired cat!

duct-tape. wrap it around a book or your hand the opposite way with the sticky part on the outside and pat it on. I had a cat for as long as I could remember and it always worked. FYI It works on clothes too and is cheeper than the stuff u buy at the pet store.

Packing Tape and Largely Loop it around your fist-like to create a circle (but not tight around hand)this will allow you to adjust the tape as it loads up w/ hair etc. Then toss it when no more areas of tape is sticky anymore. Continue til hair less!!

Good-Luck!!

Wal mart in the pet section has something called a hair magnet. It looks like a wiper for a window or shower, but you just stroke it one way on your furniture and it works like magic.
