You are making a police report about your stuff being stolen. If it was them, should they be allowed to do this?I'm sorry but that is ridiculous. If these kids break into homes at this age,you are not helping them by letting them get away with it.By letting it slide you are hurting EVERYONE,including the next innocent person they victimize.
Also, how many times have we all heard people on the news describing hard core criminals that they knew when they were younger, everyone always says"It's too bad someone didn't do something earlier"

Don't feel bad. They broke the law. Better they get caught now for something relatively minor, so they still have time to change. Next they will be stealing cars and maybe worse...
You can't be soft like that, because then people will see you as a pushover. It's not like they egged and t.p.ed your house or something, this is breaking and entering, and they need to be punished for their actions. If they didn't want a record, then they shouldn't have broke the law.

You are being soft. If kids did break into your house, thats a serious crime and could be the stepping stone into way more serious and hurtful crimes. Your getting them 'caught up in the law' just might help turn them around. I know probation did wonders for me when I was a 'troubled' teen, not that it works for all. As it is, you can mention your suspicions to the police about who you think did it, but don't be absolutely sure they did it unless you saw them with your own two eyes.

If you know whi the kids are perhaps you should call their parents and have a talk and take it from there. Getting the police involved may not necessarily be bad for those kids either. They will not be treated harshly; but it could wake them up to the seriousness of what they've done and probably prove a deterrent for future bad escapades. I do know this: You must not let them get away with it, otherwise, their behavior could escalate.

Make the report. Not doing so will not help the kids and will only teach them that they can get away with crime. Once the kids are arrested, you can ask the judge to dole out community service or something that will help them become better people. Maybe they should work at an animal shelter or something like that. They need to learn to respect people.

If they broke into your home, what makes you think they won't keep going and break into your neighbors' as well? You're doing the kids and the neighborhood a favor by taking action to stop it at this point.
They got "caught up in the law" as soon as they made the decision to break into someone else's home.
