I began my 1st period just after my 10th birthday, and it lasted about 2 wks. My mom, a nurse, but a mother first, took me to the dr just to be sure. I remember the GYN basically lecturing her saying, You know very well that any adolescent female could have an irregular period (heavy, spotting, not every month, etc).
She went on to say that especially beginning so early, I might have to worry about very irregular cycles. It's not abnormal, but if it's heavy, smelly, very dark, or last a very, very long time (3 wks or more at heavy) make a dr visit just to be sure.
But after I turned 13, my cycles went from so irregular to every mos, 3-4 days I would bleed normally, but every woman is different. Don't quote me, but I've heard that studies shown that mothers and daughters tend to have the same menstrual symptoms {what were your's like as a teen or whenever u began, it's possible she might follow in your foot-steps}
Like some said, take her to the dr and ask for their suggestions.
Most doctors won't give an 11 yr old b/c pills, but I'm sure there are other methods out there.

I started when I was 10 and the same thing happened to me....for the next several years. The periods were very heavy and cramping got very rough for me, enough to where my junior year of high school, I was sick the first day of my period every month. This is normal. I went to see my doctor and he prescribed birth control (which terrified my mother- but she outta be proud because I did not take advantage of that situation. I remained a virgin) to lighten the periods up and lighten the cramping. You can take her to the the doctor to see what he says. I think 11 may be too young for BC but he may have an alternative solution for you (and her!)

How heavily is it?
Many girls when they have started their periods, do bleed heavily especially if their mothers did during theirs.
When I was a teen (I started mine at 13), my periods were heavy and have always been on the heavy side. My mother's were also heavy.
Her periods may settle down within a few years after her body has adjusted. But if she is soaking through a super pad within an hour or less, take her to the doctor. That's too heavy.

girls are starting their period alot earlier these days because of the hormones in our food. 11 is now the average age that a girl starts her period. And the heaviness is fine.. I was heavy when I first started my period and I had such cramps and pain that for two or three days out of every month i had to be taken out of school and put in bed. Give it some time - I never went to the doctor and Im just fine.

Is she also having pain. When i first got my period i came very hard also. I suppose it is just her flow. I have extremely bad pain with mine. I think the meat that i was eating at the time contributed to the bleeding as well.

This happens to a lot of girls. If you go to the doctor, he or she will probably suggest that you put your daughter on birth control. It will lessen the flow of blood.
Hope the helped.

Are you asking if this is normal? If so, it could or could not be. Only a doctor could tell you for sure. It's probably just her body getting used to the changes. :)
