I'm sorry, but whoever told you that is stupid. To fly within the USA, all you need is a government-issued ID, like a driver license, state ID, or passport. You will need a passport if you leave the USA, even if it's just to Canada, Mexico, or islands in the Carribean. The only destinations that won't require a passport are US territories, like Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and so on.

Passports are not need for DOMESTIC flights in the US. You only need your boarding pass & a state issued picture id to board your flight & pass through security, but if you are coming into the US on an INTERNATIONAL flight, you are required to have it with you. Otherwise, customs will not let you enter.

As for international land & sea entrance into US, passports are not required yet, but the state department is planning on implementing passport requirements, sometime next year at the earliest.

Be nice to security & do check with the airline & US state department websites for any updates.

That is not true. To travel within the US, all you need is a Government issued ID if you are 18 years of age or older.

No,perhaps those who told you has get a fool on you.I think that you need a pasport if you want to go anywhere even when you is a child.

No, you need a passport, no matter how old you are, only traveling internationally, including Canada and Mexico.
