Any info on head to head match ups, number of stanley cups, playoff head to head records, fight wins/losses, etc. from the start of the rivalry (I beleive this to be the first year they met in playoffs) until the "end", when both teams didn't meet or go deep into playoffs would also be appreciated. Surely someone out there has a spreadsheet with all this. I get goosebumps thinking back to the game of McCarty vs. Lemieux and Vernon vs. Roy. I doubt i'll see anything like this rivalry during my lifetime again. That was a hell of a run for both teams, but who actually came out on top....

The rivalry was pretty even. The cups were 3-2 in favor of Detroit. The series that started it had Colorado on top in 6 games after Lemieux laid a dirty hit to Draper giving him a broken jaw, cheek and orbital bone, which required surgery and numerous stitches. The next year, McCarty turtled Lemieux and Roy was clotheslined by Shanahan. 12 players were actually fighting including Roy and Vernon, and they were surrounded by everyone else. Detroit won that night in OT on McCarty's goal and eventually the cup; that year and the next. The most interesting thing about it all is that Roy almost got to fight 3 different goalies, Vernon, Osgood, and almost Hasek, who tripped on a stick in '02 before he could get to him.

You need to read the book that just came out by Adam Dater called "Blood Feud". It is about the Wings- Avs rivalry and the book starts with Lemieux boarding Draper in the 1996 playoffs.. The book is excellent! It just intensifies my hatred of all things Avalanche!

Statistically, you have to look at the playoffs only as regular season hockey is BS despite the two exciting brawl games in '97 and '98.
Spreadsheet? Aaaargh, who has the time for that BS. Just look it up.

Anyway, they met five times, the Avnots winning 3 series BUT the Dead Things have more Cups. Plus ya gotta like that last one where Hasek shut out Patrick's Avs 7-0 in a Game 7.

You also forgot Shanahan clotheslining that idiot Roy when he came out of nets in that one reg season matchup in the brawl games.

i'm assuming that Hasek is beginning in objective this evening as OZZY had a shutter very last evening. that provides the Avs atleast a million softie, per chance 2. could make for an engaging pastime and that i'd be observing. This competition desires to warmth up back!

as far at "the game" when mccarty just clobbered lemieux. you have to say the wings. they won to. i have that game recorded onto dvd. watch it every year. its amazing. i think lemieux deeply regretted the hit on draper.
