Our household income is above national median; house value is double national median and we dont' have spending habits, not even mag subscriptions, nothing. How is it that statistically most people should be less wealthy than us but it seems like everyone I see buys things that even we couldn't, even the lawn mowing guy has a new 4x4 truck, snowmobiles, motorcyles, etc. Kids driving around in more expensive cars while going to college! Is it inheiritance? That would explain it because I have none of that.

Probably most people in your community are way above the national medians. Also, probably most people in your community probably have a lot of debt. Your parents are probably smarter than most people.

the national median is so low b/c they are a huge number of very poor people, whom you probably don't see very often. I mean, the fact that you own a house at all puts you way above most working-class families. also, you are simply pointing out the huge income-disparity here in the US. Many people are below the poverty level, and still so many other people own large homes and drive SUVs.
