Fish contains mercury from pollution. Your doctor or the local wic office can give you a list of fish that are safer than others. Its a shame too considering its very good for you. The scandanavians from what ive heard dont have many problems with mercury though due to drinking lots of black tea which is an antioxident. Google it and you will get some info on it as well.

Fish can contain mercury, which will hurt the baby. While you are pregnant and lactating your baby eats everything that you do, and mercury can build up in your and the baby's system.
Where I live pregnant woman, children, and elderly are told to never eat fish out of the Ohio River because of the mercury levels in the fish.

It is because of the , oh what is it called? Is it lead? There is something that is in fish, maybe Mercury, anyway, there is something in fish that will supposedly harm the baby. Heck, be careful of that ice cream it could have a nut in it and you could choke. Ten years from now, they will probably say that you need to eat fish four times a week when pregnant? Be careful and pray about it. Look at all of the fish that was ate when Christ was born.

Many fish contain above normal levels of toxins, especially heavy metals like mercury which can have negative effects on the development of the fetus. Fish is actually very good for you if you can find a source that is low in toxins... know your source, check with your obstetrician, alternative health practitioner, and local natural food stores. Many toxins can pass through the placenta and/or into breast milk. Breast milk is always best, but best NOT to pass toxic chemicals to your developing baby!!

because some fish have contaminants that could hurt the fetus. The same way with lactating, the contaminants go through the breast milk into the baby. Which could prevent the development in the fetus's brain and nervous system

It is because of the Omega 3 or the folic acid in the foods I believe. These are toxic to developing children. In fact children are advised not to eat fish until the age of 2. This also goes with honey. Women can not take asprin if they are pregnant either. Tylanol is the best.

Because of the Mercury levels in fish could be harmful to the baby, and can cause health problems, and I think maybe birth defects for the fetus.

Because of the high mercury levels in fish. Stay away from large fish that eat other fish, such as swordfish and shark. Tuna is ok in moderation.

Nearly all fish and shellfish contain trace amounts of mercury. That's because when mercury gets into waterbodies it can be converted into methylmercury and can enter the aquatic food chain, where it collects in fish tissue.
