I'm on a router and when I try to telnet anything, it comes back unable to connect, is there an alternative way of using telnet on a router?

both systems need to be running the Telnet service then there is also the issue of permissions to the host computer for remote log on

Telnet is a major security hole in the Windows OS and is usually disabled by default...

Hello,
More info is needed... Are you trying to telnet to a machine inside or outside of your local network?
Your router should not block outgoing requests just as it should allow responses to your requests back through...
If you are trying to go through your router into another network (bad idea with telnet) you will need to forward port 23 on the other network so your request can get in.
Most likely the client machine is not setup to accept connections.
If you are using Linux or Mac or some other Unix variant you should use SSH, much more secure.
Good luck

Telnet uses port 23. Make sure port 23 is allowed in your router configuration (usually done at http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 )
