Absolutely. While your immune system is fighting off the sickness with its white blood cells (t cells and b cells), the cold/flu is ruining the rest of your body. The secretion of hormones become inbalanced because there has been a "breach" into your system. Also periods can change because of the way you're eating and temperature change. There are so many factors that can influence your cycle.

A woman's hormone balance is delicate and be thrown off very easily. This can be due in part to illness, medications, exercise, regularity of sexual intercourse or stress. Sometimes even by the things we eat. So tell your friend to relax....if it is 7-10 days late I wouldn't worry unless she knows she had unprotected sex since her last period. But the more she worries, the more stress she produces, which alters her bodily functions and wallah, no period. Of course, seeing her doctor in a few weeks might be necessary to confirm pregnancy.

Yes your cycle can change due to an illness. A woman's cycle can change when she comes is surrounded by different women on a day to day basis. For example getting a new job can change your cycle. Mothers and daughters who live together are usually on the same cycle because they are around each other alot.

anything that upsets the homeostais (balance) of your body like an illness can effect anything, like a period. Hormones run the show and if they are controlling one thing, they may not fully control or their actions may adversely effect other functions of the body. Sometimes missing a period is the first sign a person is ill (or pregnant!)

Yes. Sickness, Stress, wieght gain, wieght loss, lots off things can throw you off. Best advice is to protect yourself, and track your cycles. If you are more than a couple days off then you should be worried. Best of luck.

Periods can be thrown off for any number of reasons.
If your friend is nervous about being prego....tell her this..."If you are prego, you already are. If you're not, you're not."
A prego test is the only way to know!
Remember, some women that are prego still have a period one more time.
