a lot of babies don't like the taste of cows milk at first so I would give half formula/half milk to start. Then slowly use less and less formula until he is drinking all milk.
I started sippy cups at 9 months old or so. That way when they hit one year old, you can stop offering bottles and only offer the sippy cup.

For both of my children, I just went right from formula to whole milk without watering it down or anything else.

My first daughter pretty much went right from being breat-fed to a sippy cup. She didn't have much of an interest in bottles. She was using a sippy when she was still taking formula.

My second daughter is kind of the opposite. She doesn't have much interest in sippy cups (though she loves fast food cups with the lid and straw) and pretty much only wants a bottle. We just talked with our doctor about this (she just turned one) and the doctor said just take the bottles away. She knows how to use a sippy and when she gets thirsty, she'll use one. I think within the next month or two, the bottle will be taken away.

Good Luck!!

I waited longer than the Dr recommend, about 14 months, but milk allergies run in my family. I only gave small amounts at first, but I was being overly careful. I started a sippy cup as soon as he started holding his bottle on his own. We didn't have a problem switching. I put the juice in the sippy cup, because he liked that better.

I mixed it slowly in with the formula. I also discovered that my baby is mildly lactose intolerant. If you just switch straight to it and they get an upset stomach you won't know if it's just due to change or from the milk itself. You can start switching to a cup as soon as they learn the concept of tipping it to drink. He might have learned that from his bottle already. I had to start with watered juice to convince my son that there was something good in the cup but he got it quickly from there. Good luck

My daughter is 10 months old and our physician told us to wait until after she is one to start giving her regular milk. Right now, a baby needs the formula because it contains nutrients that they still need. Please don't introduce regular milk right now. I am sure when your son goes for his 12 month checkup, your physician will explain everything then about starting milk. I started my daughter on the sippy cup about 2 months ago. Its easier to introduce the kinds with the handles on the sides. Hope everything works out for you.
