Do you believe that "everyone should win?" When you have a game in school or competition such as fund raisers do you believe that everyone should win or should more emphasis be placed on who sold/won what? I think in real grown up life there are some winners and some losers. How you get that way depends alot on YOU. Should all children be told they are winners in a competition? If so what do you think they are learning about competition? Work ethic?

I am in no way saying to tell them, "They were bad because they didn't win" or "They should win at all costs". I think this teaches sportsmanship, which is a good thing.

I disagree that everyone should win. I go along with you and believe that there should be some winners and losers but don't forget to include sportsmanship. Everyone should be praise for their effort,

I think that we should be teaching our children cooperation and not competition. Instead of a competitions we should be find ways that our children can work together for a common goal. The fundraiser thing should not be a competition between kids but a collaboration. Whether they are raising funds for a class field trip or to donate to a worthy cause the reason for the fundraiser should be enough incentive (not prizes or "winning").

I think it matters what the competition is... if it is a fundraiser, of course more than one person should... fundraising is what teaches students how to work a "company" they have to pick a goal and stick to it! When you are a kid it should be "everyone wins" because that teaches kids that there is faireness in the world, when they get into middle school and high school is when they learn to swim in the big pool.

we like to teach the moral, "everyone should win," but let's face it. the winners are clear to everyone. this question depends on the way you personally view things. are you competitive or do you value equality at all times? no matter what, always congratulate a child if they have done well in any competition, just as long as they put in effort. it is important to instill pride and confidence, but too much of it can also encourage vanity.

Well, I have kids and you mentioned the fund raisers...most of those are probably the work of the parents, not the child.

I do not think too much competition is good at any age.
