Hey Everyone :)
I was just wondering how I could help animals in need. I am only 13 years old and some places say that I am too young but I think that is kind of "un-fair". I mean I know quite a bit about different animals and I would love to help them. I would do ANYTHING. Cleaning cages, walking dogs,...etc... I live in Australia, Sydney. So if you know any clinics like RSPCA that would "hire" me that would be great. Plus I don't care if I am paid or not. Thx for your help everyone!

Well, I have that exact same problem. My humane society won't let me help till I'm sixteen. They said if both my mom and me helped then they would let me. That won't work, because she is busy. But this is something I can't wait to do. There are theraupetic riding facilities that need people to lead the horse or groom or tack up, or many things, for them because the rest of the workers are helping the autistic people, or people kind of like that. I get to go there to help out this summer. But you can probably find something like that.
It is helping the person, but at least its around animals. Just look around and I think you will find something.

Well here in the U.S. a lot of the vet hospitals and shelters will not hire or even allow volunteers anymore unless they are over 16. The usually need to sign a waiver and have medical insurance if they volunteer at some places.

at 13 the best thing for you to do is spend your time educating your self about the animals you want to help ,do you have shelters for dogs in Sidney , Here in the us i think you have to be 14 to volunteer for anything unless one of you parents are with, study animal care and behavior then you will be ready when you are old enough. Good Luck.

I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE ONLY 13 YEARS OF AGE, AND THAT IS TOO YOUNG TO WORK ANYWHERE LEGALLY, BUT THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT YOU CAN NOT HELP ANIMALS IN NEED OF RESCUE, WHAT YOU CAN DO IS KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE OUT FOR ANIMALS THAT ARE IN NEED OF RESCUE, IF THE ANIMAL IS NOT ON THE DEFENSE AND YOU FEEL THAT THE ANIMAL IS SAFE TO ENCOUNTER, DO SO AND IF THE ANIMAL IS NOT SAFE OR MAY BE CONSTRUED AS DANGEROUS CONTACT THE PROPER AUTHORITIES ANDSEE TO IT THAT THEY FOLLOW UP ON YOUR LEAD. IDENTIFY YOURSELF EACH TIME, SO THAT THE PROPER AUTHORITIES ARE AWARE THAT YOU CARE IF YOU DO THIS OFTEN ENOUGH IT WILL KEEP YOU BUSY AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT YOU WILL BE OLD ENOUGH TO GET A JOB IN THIS PARTICULAR FIELD AND YOU WILL HAVE ALREADY LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR FUTURE IN HELPING ANIMALS THAT ARE IN NEED.

If you have a local Humane Society they are ALWAYS looking for volunteers and I'm sure they'd be more than happy for you to help with a great many different tasks!

Well you could go to your local pound or animal shelter and volenteer your time. Most of the time they are willing to accept help. If not find a rescue center most are privately owned and are will to take volenteers.

Good luck.

Call your local shelter and volunteer. Call your local senior center, and tell them that you are available to pet-sit, walk dogs, etc...then you can help animals AND senior citizens...
collect old blankets (or new ones!) and donate them to your local vet for sick animals to sleep on (they put them in the cages)...
Have fun!

look for a bird rescue or a sea bird sanctuary. The ones around me take teenage volunteers with a wavier signed by the parents.
