not a good idea-- if motor stalls and you have power brakes and power steering-- youd be in big trouble. re-ingaging the tranny from nuetral to drive could cause problems. commercial driver (30 years)

No, won't hurt it to drop out of gear. But if you click it back into D while you're at speed, give it a little pedal to match the engine speed to your road speed. It will just put less stress on the trans. However, why would you want to take it out of gear? Just drive it.

Not at all... Shifting back into D should be done with care... ie. don't be travelling too fast, or ensure that the engine is at approximately the normal rev range for the speed that you are travelling.

if you are traveling downhill and you shift FROM drive TO neutral you should he fine. don't do it too often. shifting from neutral to drive will put unnecessary strain and torque on the transmission.

It will damage the transmission because the gears will no longer be synchronized when you put it back into "drive".

yes it will,,it will in time cause it not to shift right,this will be the first sign of it giving problems,,but its not good for it,,good luck hope this helps.

No it won't hurt your transmission, but it will hurt your pocketbook, if you get caught. That is an illegal practice, doing that.
