What brand of BIOS? Are you running IDE as your primary HD? Make sure your jumpers are set correctly, this is the major cause of a BIOS not detecting a HD. You may to to enable your SATA properties within your BIOS. Write back with a little more information.

Do you have both the SATA cable and power cable connected? If only power is connected it would spin-up, but BIOS couldn't detect it.

Do you already have a SATA drive installed on the system? It might be something with the BIOS only supporting one drive unless they are in a RAID configuration.

SATA drive requires special setup in the BIOS and special driver for windows. Usually in the advance bios setup there will be some field mentioning SATA, you must unable it and if this is the bootable drive you must set it as firs bootable device. You may have to upgrade you BIOS if the above will not help. For trouble shooting purpose it is best if he SATA is the only drive in the machine.

The power cable will turn the drive on and make it spin regardless of whether it shows up in the BIOS.

It's possible the hard disk circuitry is damaged. Try a different SATA cable.

All the above replies are very valid like, jumper settings etc. if u have an old pc and a new drive try upgrading the bios .... but be very very carefull. Upgrading the Bios could be very risky business if you don't do your homework right.

1st.. is all the wiers pluged right... if there not that may casue it... also one thing to know there's 2 power cord 4'm ur MOBO(motherbord) and only one can be conected to ur HD.. if u tried everything i would call the place u got it from and see what's going on... w/ most HD... BIOS should pick it up in a sec... also is this our main HD.. if so u need to re-install Windows.. the BIOS will kick in... try that ... hope it works

You installed a new or secondary hard drive? If so...
Right click My Computer, click Manage
Click on the Disk management tab, highlight the desired hardrive, right click and format.
After it formats you will see it in "My Computer"
