My period is highly irregular. I want to know why I am like this? Is there an illness that can cause such irregular periods.
I think birth control may have first caused it. I was fine until I took the pill. The shot was the worst though, cause I had a period for two months and then didn't have one for a year. All doctors do is try to put me on more birth control. Can I ever be normal again without taking birth control.

Could be stress, could be bad reaction to the pills.

Ask your doctor about provera. I'm on it right now, to re-start my period after 5 months without it. 10 days, and then according to them I should only ave to wait a week before I get my period again.

Also get tested for Polycystic ovarie syndrome, and a couple of other diseases that can cause you to not have your period. All in all, talk to your doctor. Tell him/her that you think the birth control isn't helping, and find out if you've been tested for anything or not.

Most important though, is that you do research on your own. Be informed about your body.

Oh god, I had trouble with the shot too. No period for like a year straight then suddenly after I got the last shot, I bled for the entire 3 months. Notice I said the "last" shot. I never got another because of that. I've only had 2 periods since August. And yes, every time I have talked to my doctor about it, they put me on a 10 day birth control "trial" lol. I take a pill each day for 10 days then stop to see if it will throw me into a period. Which it always does. So they say I'm fine. But, ummm....I must not be or Id have regular periods?
If you are overweight or underweight this could be a factor in your irregular periods. I really don't have an answer for this, just wanted to say that I share your concern. Good luck.

Periods are irregular when you start menstruating and when you're reaching menopause. If you don't fall into those age groups, then I'd ask my doctor about it. There is still a lot of variability for women throughout their child-bearing years, and depo-provera shots can definitely mess around with your cycle, but it should regulate itself again within 6 months. Going back on the pill is a way to coerce your body back into a normal cycle. When you stop it again, your periods should become more regular on their own. I miss taking the pill. I always knew when my period would start, it was much lighter, and I had fewer cramps as well as better skin. Because I smoke, I'm too old to use the pill anymore.

I have irregular periods 2 hun..but it could b that ur body is just changing..could b that ur stressed out, depressed, anything that ur body can't handle can cause either ur period 2 come early, or late, or until u relax..my doctor put me on this pill called YASMIN..it's somewhat like birth control, but they say it's a slight difference (i really don't no the difference because it keeps u from getting pregnant also..) but try not 2 worry urself about it..just keep going to the doctor until they can find out what works for u....

Birth control is very unnatural and deadly, and have severe side affects. That's why its good to only use protection. Most likely, the birth control affected your hormones, and there is an extreme unbalance there. You need to see another doctor. It's possible that you could be normal--or at least close to normal--if you look for the right doctor.
