The GPS on your phone is for Emergency 911 compliancy. When you call 911, emergency services will be able to pinpoint your location. Unfortunately, you will not be able to locate your device with this technology. Good ole fashioned looking around is the only thing you can do because once the battery dies your phone won't even ring. Did you have insurance?

If you think it has been stolen you need to notify Nextel ASAP as you are responsible for any calls they make until you report it as stolen. Even if you find it you can have them turn it back on so report it now so they aren't calling India or something on it.
