I am pregnant and have a cold. I feel okay except for my stuffy nose! It drives me nuts! I can't breathe and the worst is sleeping. Anything I can do? Any remedies to cure a stuffed up nose? Thanks

Doesn't pregnancy just have a way of magnifying something??? I remember. Anyway, usually you can take something for a stuffy nose/cold, just call your doctor before you go to the store and if you can't get your doctor, ask the Pharmacist.

Just a mention of something else. A friend of mine, who is currently pregnant with her 3rd baby, has this crazy thing where she's stuffy and congested ALL throughout the pregnancy. I've seen it, it's for real! I feel so bad for her, can you imagine that?

First and foremost, keeping your head above the level of your chest will help, think sleeping in the recliner. A warm mist vaporizer will help, (you can purchase these for as little as $14.95 and as much as $200.00 at any Wal-Mart, Target, K Mart, we have one that was around twenty bucks) it has been a life saver through all pregnancies and is your best friend when your infant catches its' first cold. There are solutions to put in the vaporizer to put menthol and other good things in the air, these will also help. We have also tried the Sudafed plug-ins, they come with replacable pads and were helpful, but not as much as the vaporizer. Keep that vaporizer going in whatever room you are in as much as is recommended by the manufacturer, the more the better. Vicks vapor rub on your chest and under your nose will also help loosen things up, and breathing in steam under a towel is wonderful. My ob gave me permission to use over the counter medication, but I didn't. Be sure to check in with your doctor or nurse before taking anything and weigh your options. If you are a hot tea drinker, mint, spearmint, peppermint, will help clear out your nose is you drink it hot - the steam is delicious. Not to much though, mint can upset your stomach, sugar or sweetner is okay. Good Luck!!!

How far along are you? Sudifed can only be taken after you are tweleve weeks but there are other things to do.

Try steaming up the bathroom and sitting in there for a while, nasal spray, or a humidifier.

I have a 1-year-old and when I was prego we lived in North Carolina. I have never had allergies before, but boy did I there. My Dr. told me I could take Sedufed (sp??), but eventually prescribed Clairnex for me. Ask your Dr. if it's ok for you to take something. If all else fails, get those "Shower Soothers" they're like vapo rub for the shower.

When I was pregnant my doctor was very strict as to me not taking meds, He told me to drink a hot cup of camille tea a day, worked wonders for me, and to use breath right strips when I went to sleep.

I'd run a vaporizor in your room... if you don't have one, it's a good investment. You'll need one for the baby anyway....

Vick's brand vaporizor is $9.96 at Walmart.

Also, it is safe to use saline nasal spray and this is very good for a dry nose.... you can use is as often as needed.
