I have a program called RegistryFix that I downloaded from http://www.registryfix.com/?hop=ls2004
It was free and works pretty decent. Good luck!

are you getting any error code? you can try ewido (free) to remove the spyware. You can use system restore to the date prior to the problem. Would not recommend changes with the registry unless you are an expert. Try using CCleaner. Also a little more data would help. Apart from registry fixes, this problem can also be solved by tuning "services". BTW, i am assuming that you are using WIN XP and service pack 2 with all the security updates in place.

I would suggest trying to remove the spyware first. It can be tricky sometimes, but I would try this and see if it works: http://www.spywareguide.com/spydet_469_cnsmin.html
Format HD as A LAST RESORT. Before you do that, you might try a System Restore. Use google or Windows Help to find out how, if you don't already know.
Good luck, Sean.

Hmm, there are a dozen of things which might be causing the problem. You can try to run folder windows in a separate process. Here's how, go to open Windows Explorer. On the menu bar > Tools > Folder Options > "View" tab > check "launch folder windows in a separate process. Should this prove unsuccessful, you can reinsall Windows without destroying any of your data. Read

gdodd has hit the nail on the head. If your going to mess with the registry (run... regedit) and don't know exactly what you are doing, just reload your OS from scratch. They may be some other answers you can try first.

Rebuild the computer. That the only real way to make sure everything is cleaned and working well. If you don't know how to do this though, don't.
