Through the years I've contacted my Senator or Representativeabout 2 dozen times, mostly by phone to express my opinion on a legislative matter, & urge them to vote accordingly.

I've always gotten a response, even when the response might be a polite..."The Senator is still considering this issue" (translated "The Senator disagrees w you")

Thirty years ago, while serving aboard the USS Forrestal I wrote Senator Lloyd Bentsen seeking his assistance in securing a missing safety device for my shipmates, & a few weeks later, the previously "unavailable" device miraculously was provided to each & every one of us.

I've learned from 25 years of political activism that most of our elected officials don't get anywhere near the amount of correspondence on an issue we might presume.

Several members of Congress have confirmed that if they get a dozen letters on an issue that is a lot.....if they get 2 dozen it would really be exceptional. CALL OR WRITE....it matters!!

No.

Someone (low level position) will read your submission and send back "standard answer #xx) for that type of question.

I just got a letter back from Senator Cantor, of Virginia, where "he" (ha!) thanked me for writing him and that he would continue his support of education.

The real topic I had emailed him about, was the Learn & Serve Program which is awarded to high school juniors & seniors based upon their civic involvement. No mention in his "letter" anything about civic involvement.

I work with congress quite often. I always get responses and sometimes results.

It has to be a real, local issue. You also have to write professionally for them to take you seriously. It has to be about something that will help the local masses. Something that may also be a feather in their cap.

I also received a letter from Clinton in 94.

sarcastically the Republican Politicians that I disagree with are much better about responding to my letters than my own Democratic Politicians. also, the responses that i'm getting from the Republican Politicians that I disagree with are often a own respond to the certain topics that I raised in my letter and are commonly nicely idea out and nicely researched. If i'm getting a reaction from my own Democratic Politicians that's often not something better than a standard kind letter. .

In all honesty, yes - but only from Republicans. I have written to several Dems in the past, but didn't even get a form letter in response. I have never been totally ignored by a Republican.
