I'm not necessarily talking about your favorite band... I'm talking about the most important to rock's sound. My favorite band is Pink Floyd, but I think that The Rolling Stones have them beat by a long shot for impact on future rock music, and The Beatles definitely have the Rolling Stones under them. So... who's the most important band in the history of rock and why?

The best rock band would have 2 be the rolling stones and the best metal band would have to be slipknot you can't deny wht both of these bands have done for there music genre slipknot transformed the faces of Nu-Metal, and the rolling stones are top 5 in tickets sold, top 10 in albums sold and they transformed and set the ground rules for rock as we know it today

Pink Floyd is great but thier music is not really rock n roll its something more than that.

Not really a band, but Chuck Berry. I know a lot of people say Elvis Presley invented rock and roll, but Chuck Berry was the true creator and without him, there would not be any rock music

I don't know the name of the band but there were these guys in the hair metal era and they were the first African-American rockers they were pretty good and the first ones. Rather than them I would say Elvis because he invented rock and roll

If you are talking about importance, I think Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin are the main influences on the Hard Rock sound, although they are my favourites.

Led Zeppelin has influenced every single rock band following them. No one can say they listen to rock and not listen to Led Zeppelin. They carved everything in stone. That rock can be whatever you turn it into. And that rock is so much more than rebellion and youth music. It's a complex genre that can be soft and slow, to fast and hard. Led Zep did everything first. They were the best and still are. No one tops them.
