my daughter has a baby out of wedlock. The baby is currently on medicade by requires numerous medical proceedures. There are more and more doctors not accepting medicade. I suggested that her father(whom she lives with) get legal guardianship of the child and carry the baby on his insurance. What is the definition of guardianship, and is there any other way to accomplish this. The biological father is not too happy about this, even though my X supports all of them.

I assume you are in the US by your surname Texas. Legally there is something you can do, and I really do not care what the biological father feels since he is not supporting the child. This may sound off but it is really the best way. Your X needs to petition the state to take custody of the child...wait and listen...then he needs to petition to become the "foster parent" of the child. The state will then be responsible for ALL the medical bills. I have helped facilitate and seen this done many times. The baby's father has NO rights as he is not supporting the child. He will have to go before the judge and act to support or turn the child over. It may sound horrible but this works. Good look. Give guardianship to the state and take foster parenthood. The father cannot fight it and the state takes care of the extensive medical bills. Good luck and my thoughts are with you. Alda
