Humans extinction will take many of the organisms mentioned along for the ride. It is the ocean which will yeild the next dominant creature. Octopods have a brain that exceeds humans in integration of function and, behind primates, are the most likely to dream and fantasize. While not social, they can watch another octopus or even a human complete a task and repeat it. Octopuses in labs have been known to sneak out of their tanks, cross the room, eat fish out of a tank and then crawl back to their own and close the lid. They can comunicatre with their skin like a plasma television, operate within three dimensions, make collections of pretty things, use tools, and play. Octopods live in every ocean of the world, spread babies by the millions as plankton, and can create their own shelters. Their only problem thus far is that they are unable, due to their moist habitat, to control another source of energy. If they discover sea floor vents and sulpher dioxide, we are all in trouble.

first of all, interesting state of affairs. even with the actual incontrovertible truth that, if people grow to be extinct a a lot of alternative species would also deliver about extinction. If i grow to be to quite wager, i'd say if people grow to be extinct, whales or any water-inhabitat animal would take over the international when you consider that 70% of the earth is water. even with the actual incontrovertible truth that, in case you advise who would rule the international (which skill no longer by using being the most deadly notwithstanding the most smart-like us people) then i'd ought to agree the apes would take over. back, interesting to think about.

this question is hard. I think no species can take place of humans. Humans are the only animals who have used their brains and developed a culture. There were animals even before humans came right? BEfore humans there were No specific animal ruling the earth. SO i suppose after we are gone-for-good other animals will retain to their lifes as it used to be before humans destroyed their habitation. Those animals might evolve and then maybe one of the intelligent one would be able to take our place.

Beetles.

"Beetles might be the most successful creatures on earth! Their incredible ability to adapt to any environment makes sure that they will exist, probably long after humans have disappeared from earth."

"Coleoptera is the largest order in the entire animal kingdom. There are more species of beetles than species of plants! There are about 350,000 named species of beetles in the world and many more unnamed species."

the possibility of that is not too great. We are the only animal species that has developed a culture and adaptation foundation so strong that we can survive anything. The development of technology gives us the advanatge to adapt to anything and change our habitat...when oftentimes this is what causes extinction

It would probably be chimps. I did read an interesting sci-fi story where after humans rats evolved intelligence, colonized the galaxy, then they became extinct and after them dragon flies evolved intelligence and colonized the galaxy.

Insects, they've been around since before the dinosaurs and will still be around long after we're gone.
