And they're so swollen! Is there anything I can take to help alleviate the discomfort. Is this preety normal? How come I didn't experience this when I was on the pill?

Hormones. The pill regulates your hormones and often prevents a lot of menstration related side effects. Many women take the pill for that reason and not for the pregnancy protection. Your period is the end of your cycle when your body is preparing to possibly get pregnant and the hormones released stimulate a lot of things like breast size, mood, bloating etc.. Its all very normal and different women experience different things. As bad as you feel, remember, some womans got it worse! Stay on the pill if it helped regulate you better. Lots of women do today. It also helps prevent pregnancy, a bonus side effect!

I think it has to do with hormones. I am on the pill and my breasts still hurt before my period. Depending on your size, you could just wear a sports bra. It is pretty normal, and I would just avoid any vigorous activity for a few days.
