The company can charge whatever they like under the heading of "Shipping & HANDLING". It's in the "Handling" part that companies have some leeway, because they use it as a catch-all way to absorb the costs of packaging and having employees move it around and deal with it.
Yes, you're getting hosed, but a lot of companies do it.

Handling is another way of ripping you off. Handling is a cost f doing business the same as an employee in a store bagging your groceries. They charge excessively on shipping and handling to make their item price look lower, it is deceit and deception Try to qualify for free shipping or go elsewhere. It is the same as the car rental companies, the 19.99 a day car with all the extras, surcharges, fees, etc easily becomes $50. I use transit and bypass that stuff. Let businesses know that you will not stand for being overcharged for shipping/handling.

I don't believe anyone mandates that but that is very excessive. I bet the shipping cost more than the product that was in the box.

what company did you use? did you go "authorized shipping center?" if you went to one of those third party places
then those places can charge what ever they like
on top of the regular shipping prices charge by UPS and Fedex.

A company can charge whatever they want. If you don't want to pay their charges, don't buy anything from them. You don't have a "right" to get cheap shipping.

Did you include any other "special" services like inside delivery, insurance for a high dollar item, or rush service?
