Since Windows requires that games are played full-screen, will using a wide screen monitor distort the image? Will it slow the framerate down?
Also, will Windows Vista/DX10 allow you play games in a non-maximized window?

Certain games offer widescreen resolutions, unfortunately it's up to the developers and if they dont offer a widescreen resolution, yes the picture will be stretched a little. However, I own a widescreen monitor and you really can't notice if it's stretched out. The only time I ever notice is if I'm scoped in with a sniper rifle and the scope is more of an ovular shape than a circle.

No. widescreen resolution can be adapted by your PC for the game. YOuc an allso adjust the resolution within the game or even thrugh your video cards settings.
Playing games in a window is not recommended at all. FUllscreen is always the best choice.

it won't stretch if the alternative is desperate up precise. The exception to it is that in case you exhibit photos that are no longer a widescreen component ratio finished exhibit screen. yet then i will argue that if I take a 6 with tips from 4 (3 with tips from 2) component ratio image and exhibit it finished exhibit screen on a usually happening component ratio exhibit screen then it is going to squash it. Set your laptop determination to the final suited component ratio, verify your game resolutions are widescreen too and don't stress photos to fill the finished exhibit screen and each thing will look good.

The settings for display of full screen games are in the games settings itself, you can fiddle with the game settings till you get the right one.
Increasing the resolution will slow down your FPS. anything lower than 60 - 70 fps and you should lower the res.
Finding out what your fps is in a game usually requires a command line in the game, for instance
CS and CSS is net_graph 3
COD is cg_showfps 1
you'll need to google each game you need to see it for.

Nope, you can set the resolution to widescreen on newer games.

However, on very old games it may stretch them, but i doubt you play games that old.
