You need to check with your teacher(s) to make sure you know what is and isn't allowed in school.

One technique is to keep it simple. Cover with plain paper (white or coloured) and pick one matching picture. If you can afford it, use different colour for different subjects so that you can identify your books easily. You can also pick a different matching picture for the back.

If you're keen on a collage (lots of pics stuck next to each other), I'm not an expert on that, but I imagine you'd have to stick to one theme for each cover. E.g., cover your science book with flowers, your music book with pop stars, your english book with magazine headline and text clippings.

Hope that helps.

Back in the day, all we had was paper sacks. You can use those and add drawings, craft flowers attached with brads, pictures of your friends and you.
You can sew a cloth cover. If it doesn't wear out with this book, use it on the next one. Sew it tight enough so that the book covers have to be open and almost touching in the back to slip the cover on.

personally I use colored duck tape I find I get lots of comments on things I cover in my purple duck tape, availiable a wallmart,

however a slightly lower key is to not try to just cover it and make it cute overnight but to have maybe a sharpie on you and every so often put designs on the covers and have conversations that turn into inside jokes with friends on then that type of thing takes time to build though but once you are done it not only looks super cool but you can later reflect on it for some good times rememberance!

i've got friends that take the paper bags from ther favorite stores and tape those over the covers of their books...the more stores you visit, the more individual your books get. after that you can put whatever you feel like you want to put on em'.
