First off, I am sorry for all of your losses (and divorces, unless you are happy about them....). I know what it is like to lose a loved one, if not a husband/wife. I am sorry if this question caused anyone to be reminded of painful times in their lives, because it probably has. My reason for asking the question is that I heard a line in a song, "Would you rather be a widow or a divorcee?" and it really got me thinking, and I wanted to see what other people (especially those who know more about the subject than me) thought about it. So, thanks for your answers.

I'd rather be neither but to play along fairly and answer your question, I would pick widowed as someone dying is a fact of life but getting a divorce is a failure to complete the wedding vows. I never choose to fail; we all have no choice about dying generally speaking.

Divorced. If you're widowed you could still love the person and never have them again... And always remember how you spent your last day with them, or your last words. And you'd never have any time to fix regrets or take back things you might have said. When you're widowed, you will never be able to move on and you will have that aching in your heart........

DIVORCED...... Before I met the father of my children, which is who I am with now but we are not married in the eyes of the law, I was with someone very special. Two weeks after he proposed to me he committed suicide. I don't think there will ever be a time in my life that will be more difficult than that unless I lose one of my children. Knowing that they are alive and in pursuit of happiness would be easier for me to live with than knowing they are gone and that they will never be happy. Getiing over someone who wanted different things is easier than getting over someone who isn't coming back at all.

Divorced because at least I lost my spouse on intention. To lose someone and get widowed will be painful.

I am a widow, and believe me hun, the pain is no fun. I think divorce woulkd be easier to get over, but a long drawn out death is not. She died of liver and renal failure from alcohol abuse, but boy did I love that woman. I still wear my band, and she has been dead for 2 years now. I am over her now, but the ring I wore for 10 years, it is hard not to play with a ring on your finger, so I just keep it on...

I would rather be divorced and find someone else! Don't be widowed the could be finding some one else in the process.
