Hey, dude, Dr. Badawi says in the video that there is a level of Jihad that constitutes the making of war. I agree that the interpretation of Jihad as holy war alone is incorrect, but there is such a thing as a war sanctioned by shariah for the sake of Allah alone. When the Qur'an is referring to Jihad in this context, it does refer to a "holy war" and violence does constitute a "struggle for the sake of God alone" (jihad fi-sabi-allah).

As much as non-Muslims misinterpret jihad, some muslims have misappropriated Jihad to describe all acts of violence by Muslims against non-Muslim society. These are the muslims that people see and no amount of debate over the meaning of Jihad will convince anyone of the plethora of its definitions until prominent Muslims emphatically denounce those who engage in terrorist acts.

Just like no one will cease calling Americans Imperialist Crusaders or Soulless capitalists until we rethink our middle east policy and our dealings with immoral corporate entities.

There, that should have offended everyone.

I'm not anti-Islamic, but that doesn't *technically* prove anything. You can describe a holy war in so many words without actually calling it that.

There's no instance of "Inquisition" in the Bible, but the actual Inquisition was based on sound Biblical principles.

I'm just sayin'.

Literally, jihad means "striving."

O Prophet! STRIVE hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell, - an evil refuge indeed. (9:73, 66:9)

Do I look that gullible to you? Of course the Quran doesn't say holy war. It says jihad. Of course, that's the lesser jihad.
