I see a problem with it, only 364 days in the year and no mention of a leap year. The calendar year will slowly become more and more out of sync with the seasonal year.

Well, yes, this could be workable, but I do think that having 1 or 2 weeks a year with 8 days seems odd. Maybe it would have been somewhat nicer if the Gregorian calendar had originally been set up that way, or maybe not.
Fact is, the are only 14 unique calendars, so some of the disadvantages really aren't all that big a deal to me. I'm not too hot on the idea...
I got a better idea tho - in 2012 let's instead go to 8-digit phone numbers here in the U.S. I'm sick of changing my area code every few years. It's going to be even more often once every automobile, appliance, and any thing of major value has it's own phone number too. Whaddayathink?

Sounds like a good idea to me. If everyone switched to GMT rather than adding and taking away hours for different places travel would be so much easier. There are 1760 x 3 feet in a mile.

I'll agree with you about the traditionalists. But, though I don't particularly subscribe to that sort of thing, I frankly dont thing we'll see a "World Calender" --and don't favor it myself--for one simple reason: it would mean taking a lot of time and efort to change the existing system without any real benefit. And I suspect most people would agree--it would be more trouble than it would be worth. Sorry. :)

i actually devised a calendar that i like about 20 years ago. it has two essentially independent units: the day and the year. the day and the year are independent because they are based on different motions of the earth. each is divided into four parts. the day begins at midnight and the remaining divisions come at about dawn, noon, and dusk. the year begins at the winter solstice and the remaining divisions come exactly at the spring equinox, the summer solstice, and the autumnal equinox. do you like it?

This doesn't seem like such a bad idea to me. I agree though, people wouldn't go for it. I don't know why people wanted to invent such confusing methods of calculations.

according to the mayans the world is going to end in the year 2012. So we might not need a new world calender.
