You can not over-emphasize the importance of general knowledge to a person's potential success! First, it is extremely important to one's education to have a general understanding of this world, including its history, geography, and politics/governments. Additionally, to be well-rounded, you should have some acquired knowledge about the arts and literature. And of course, you should be conversant regarding current events as well as being able to write literately. You will be regarded as intelligent; you will be respected and far more likely also to be successful in your chosen career and in life!

A good general knowledge is helpful in conversation. It makes it easier to converse with people outside your regular crowd, and helps you to appear interesting and intelligent when meeting new people, and other people are often the keys to one's success.

You want to have an intelligent conversation with anybody general knowledge always helps. People who are running thing are usually the ones with a good education if you find your self in a conversation with one of them you don't want to sound stupid. you want a promotion they would want to think you are smart.
