Grand Rapids Downtown.....Excellent food, entertainment, Museum, historicals, lodging. Get a room overlooking Grand River...really nice! Especially evenings/ nighttime. No, I don't live there............

Indiana Dunes or Michigan Dunes along Lake Michigan. It's nicest in the summer but okay other times too--huge sand dunes and you can sunbathe, swim in the lake, etc. Very pretty.
Also, Windsor, Canada is basically in that area--just across the river from Detriot Michigan and much, much nicer to visit.
