when i try to it says to verify the firewall setting on my router, when i go to the stup page, there is stuff like "gaming and Applications" but nothing about a firewall or how to disable it.

You cant disable the firewall, as the router itself is essentially a firewall. The easiest option if you're a novice would be to just remove the router from the situation. If this is not an option, there should be an option for port fowarding or NAT somewhere on the router configuration page. You will need to find out what ports Gears of War uses (via google) and foward these ports in the router configuration page.

Look under Advanced tab and set the computer to a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). This tells the router to treat your computer as though it were directly connected to the internet and not attempt to block anything.

But for the best gaming experience, leave the router off. My router freezes all my games no matter what and any big downloads (over 3 Mb) will stop and freeze up the entire internet (until I disconnect power and reinsert the power cord to the router). I got so annoyed with the way routers dont do what I want that I now pay an extra 10.00 a month to get 3 additional IP#'s on my Road runner account.

as far as i can tell, the model you gave (BEFSR41) is not a firewall, per se, but it does NAT filtering on the inbound ports. so you're not going to see a firewall tab or section in the configuration page. your best bet is to set up a DMZ on it if you want to allow full access. that's assuming it is the router stopping your games - are you sure that your windows os isn't doing it?

Ok, I would love to help you out on this problem. I would say that you will need to open your internet browser and when it is open type in
192.168.2.1
When it promts for password leave them blank or type in the password that you have.
Then after that you can see a linksys page and when you get in , find Security and Firewall and disable it. This is how easy it is... hope this helps, add more details if you need more help!
