wow, just go with it! your body IS doing what is needed to prepare for birth.
You are best to stay at home as long as you can, in an envoronment where you feel comfortable.
If you want to know progress (providing you waters havn't broken) get your partner to check nb. do not put anything in there after waters have broken this can cause an infection!!
I would say with all that back pain your baby is posteria lying (spine on your spine) this makes for a longer lead up to labour. try a search for "optimal fetal positioning" for tips on turning baby to face the right way.
REMEMBER babies will come in there own time....at home or the hospital... Best of luck...

Your contractions will be stronger, they will be closer together as well. Once your water breaks watch out the cushion around those contractions are going to be gone and they will come hard and fast.
Do some squatting with the support of your partner, it opens up your pelvis more for the baby, this will put more pressure on your cervix from the baby which will make your contractions more effective (for example the higher the station usually the less effective the contractions).
I wish you all the best! Are you close to the hospital? If not I would go back and see if they have room, waiting until 5 centimeters seems a little worrysome to me. The last 5 cm go very quickly.

It's possible that your water will break. But eventually your contractions will get closer and stronger. I believe you'll have your baby before the weekend is gone. In Anderson, SC where I live, they won't let you go home if you're 4 cm or more. That's a very big risk because 90% of people fly from 5cm to 10 cm in no time. Congrats and Good Luck!

You should go by how far apart your contractions are getting. Don't go to the hospital until you are 3 min apart because once you get there they won't let you eat anything. Trust me...you are probably better off at home until it is really necessary to get to the hospital. 5 cm means you are halfway open for the baby to come out. But you have to be 100% effaced as well, meaning your cervix has to be thinned out too. Back pain means you are having back labor and that means your baby is sunny side up and the skull is putting pressure on your spine. It hurts like hell, but the baby could turn at the last moment. Try to relax and good luck.

With my first child, I was walking around at 5 cm waiting for my water to break. I didn't have contractions until the doctor broke my water at 7 cm(2.5 weeks early). My son was born two hours later. It sounds like your contractions will get heavier before your water breaks. The doctor might have to break it for you. It doesn't hurt. Good luck.

You should be in active labor right now... if you get to 5cm on your own at home you could go from 5-10 in a matter of minutes.... why the hell would they send you home? I hope you're close to the hospital... if they don't have a room for you now, think they're going ot have one in another hour? Cause that's about when you'll be going back

You only have 5 cm to go until you're fully dialted and ready to push. Your water could break at anytime, not necessarily at 5cm. Mine broke while I was pushing with my 1st. I think it's odd that they sent you home and you were that far along. I think you'll be having that baby anytime!! Personally I think you should get to the hospital. If you wait too long and you want an epidural, you'll be too late.
Good luck and congrats on your very soon upcoming arrival!!

wow 5 Cm's and they sent you home!!!!
i have home births but when i reached 4-5 Cm's the midwife stayed with me, i had my baby 2hrs later.
i would insist that i stayed at the hospital.
make sure you can get to the hospital quick coz once active labour kicks in it can go very fast.
go back to the hospital
just tell them the pains were getting to much to cope with they will have to find room for you
good luck

I have never heard of being sent home at five centimeters. I think I would go back and see if they have a room. When you do go into labor, you might go quickly because you're half way there!

OMGoodness hunny I would go to another hospital honestly I know that once you get dilated so much that you are supposed to stay in the hospital my water didn't break until i was getting ready to push so that is horrible for them to be telling you not to come back until your water breaks. PLEASE GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL ASAP YOU NEED TO BE IN THERE YOU ARE GOING TO BE GOING INTO LABOR VERY SOON.
