The Pew Research Center did a study last month regarding some of the things perceived to be luxuries or necessities. The list:

cable/satellite service
car
car air conditioning
cell phone
washer
dryer
automatic dishwasher
home air conditioning
microwave
regular TV
flat-screen TV
home computer
high-speed internet
iPod

Which of these are a luxury to you, and which are necessities? Can you think of anything else not on the list that you need?

I would like to beleive that I don't need any of those things. They are wants. Some are luxurys, but to some people having indoor plumbing is a luxury so is having enough food to eat. Materialistic. Thats what it all comes down to.

I think none. It's really interesting how people asks this questions. Well to survive you need water and food right? So that eliminates
cable/satellite service
car
car air conditioning
cell phone
washer
dryer
automatic dishwasher
home air conditioning
regular TV
flat-screen TV
home computer
high-speed Internet and
I-pod
So there is only microwave. However you need to food and none of this items give you food.So If we are talking technical, cybernetic, and new advancements in the technology, I guess it will be the cellphone. Not because you can talk to people but because you have Internet in it. You can look for news, climate, and stuff. Things that TV and computer has but not in one just the cellphone. Now hair extensions. If you need to survive how is hair extensions going to help you. I mean you eat them? what do you to with them. What if you are bald? So there you go.

I have spent years of my life trying to figure out what I need. I NEED a roof over my head, food on my table and clothes on my back. Anything outside of this (including the table) is a luxury and not necessarily a requirement.

I need a car, (there's no bus system here) washer (I could dry outside if needed) Everything else is actually a luxury. I could live without all of them except the car, and washer. I suppose I could wash my clothes in the sink, but they wouldn't get as clean.

all of those things are luxurys. All a person needs is food water and shelter. Human interaction is usually a must also (unless your a monk trying to become closer to god...then u only need the first three.)

Necessities: air, water, food, shelter, safety, clothing, health.
Important: transportation, job, love, interests.
Very convenient: cable, cell phone, washer & dryer, home AC, microwave, TV, computer, high speed internet, books
Luxuries or unnecessary: car AC, dishwasher, flat screen tv, iPod, expensive overpriced designer fashions, huge gas guzzling automobiles, expensive jewelry, cosmetic surgery (not corrective plastic surgery), more shoes than you have places to wear them, and many BRAND NAME items.

Great inventions and I am glad they are there: blenders, bottles for water and other beverages, good running shoes, electricity, chapstick, high quality personal hygiene products, medical advances, vitamin pills, jeans, sewing machines, french vanilla cappuccino, fleece blankets, insulators for beverages, and exercise videos. Great question, thanks for asking!

Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair.
I don't need the dog.
