Multiple reasons:
1) His wife wants to be an actress and best place to do that is LA
2) Real Madrid didn;t want him anymore his to old at 31 and mostly played as a sub anyways lately.
3)No other team in europe wanted him for the amount of money he was asking.
4)5yrs 250million dollars !!!!!!!!! most overpayed and overrated athlete ever.

don't believe all that nonsense about him being to old for real madrid , or madrid not wanting him. for god's sake he is one of the top players in the world. the reason is # 1 he left real madrid for the lack of winnig that they have been having lately, so he wants to try another team, and well of course L.A offered the most amount of money and well, he has been considering to live in the u.s with his spice girl Victoria. so there were many reasons for the change. ( and he is only 31, or 32, he is not old, zidane left real madrid at 35)
And one more thing , Real Madrid wanted to keep Beckham, but it was his desicion. ( why do u think he was the most payed player in Real Madrid?)

i defently agree with David B that answer your question...beckham is a very talented player and is very versitle...the dumb Real Madrid coach has a problem with all the old players...like Ronaldo and a few others. He is here to spread soccer in the us. This country really needs to know what a real sport is like and beckham is here to show them how.
