I want to run the cable from one room to another through the attic for a distance of about 80 ft. Is this kind of distance possible without losing signal strength in the cable?

Thanks.

Typically 80 feet is not a problem depending on the condition of the cable and the IEEE standard Cat5, Cat 5e, Cat6 etc. I would get a decent cable if you are going that length.

Yep
The longest a cable run should ever be is 100 feet before you need a repeater (a small signal amplifier). Eighty feet shouldn't be a problem.
