They put a restriction on my line on Wednesday the 10th because of late bill payment. I then rang them up and paid same day with a debit card and was told the restriction was got to be unactivated in an hour-24hrs. However today is Saturday and my line is still restricted. I have called them several times , 2 hours a day since the restriction(customer service is appauling). But what has been happening is every time someone rings my phone and there is no answer, it the goes to play them the Talk Talk message in qoutes

"Thank u for calling Talk Talk. Please be advised a restriction has been placed on this line. To lift the restiction please have your card details ready and provide the information we request"

They have accepted responsibilty but have not done anything to rectify the problem. This is causing me distress big time. Is there any way I can sue this company. Any law? re data protection. Shld they be playing that message to third parties after all i have paid my bill.

The information they request is the telephone no, name, adress and name of Bank for direct debits. Security questions quite obvious that my friends and family know. This is big time damage to me. I deserve a compensation.

One other thing thing is i told them i was fed up and wanted to cancel my services with them and was told by this other guy that my account had alredy been cancelled 3 days before by BT. I was like WHAT? i have nothing to do with BT anymore and u a responsible for my services now(Moved from BT 3 months ago and broadband activated 5 days ago). I asked him if he was sure of the crap he was talking about asnd he said yes. He then told me to contact BT and told him i cld not because of the restriction. He then went on to put me thru to BT. I then spoke to BT and they did not have a clue of what i was talking about and was told they had nothing to do with my services anymore(offered to come back anyway) I then called Talk Talk again giving them the BT feedback and was told that my account is still active and had not been cancelled. The person I spoke to did not understand why i had been told such information? Terrible ha-ah!!!1

Actually, I know someone who had something similar happen - we all heard that there was a restriction on her line, too (tho not the second part of your message) The company was - guess who? - Talk talk. It reminds one of the days when people were publicly pilloried for their sins.

I would have a chat with a solicitor - try and tape the message if possible.

Phone them back and this time demand names! Find out who gave you the wrong info and tell him you are making a complaint. Write down every communication you have with them from now on. They sound like a bunch of incompetents and all this adds up to a huge amount of stress and irritation for you.

My mother uses them too and she had no end of problems. You should demand that you speak with a manager if the staff are incompetent. I dont know if you can sue them but I can understand that its humiliating for you when people hear that message - I don't think they are legally able to publicy provide that information, and essentially ther ARE damaging your character by informing the public of your financial situation - and they are providing false information! I think to seek damages you may have to prove it damaged you in some way, like for example if you applied for a loan or mortgage or something and the bank called you and heard that message and you got turned down. If something like that has happened to you then you should probably seek legal advice, it would depend on where you live because of the different laws etc. Anyway, mine is not a professional opinion so please don't take what I say as fact!!!

It is probably a breach of Data Protection Act every time someone calls your phone (the message should simply say that the number is unavailable). You should write to the Manager outlining your complaint and also write to Offtel (which is the telecom watchdog) as the same time. You also may have a case for breach of contract because you paid and are still waiting for them to reactivate your account.

Good Luck.

What could you sue them for? they don't assure a particular line velocity. Their words and condititions are so tightly sewn up which you will would desire to get finished provider failure earlier you had a case. In that experience the appropriate you would be able to desire to wish for could be a rebate of the subscription for era once you had no internet in any respect. not purely that yet you could would desire to be honestly particular that it exchange into TalkTalk who have been the reason in the back of the slow velocity. it could have been BT telephone line that selection into the priority. Realistically your appropriate option is to withdraw from the settlement simply by fact their provider has been unreliable and the poor customer help. in the event that they have a "minimum era" for the settlement you could say that they broke it first by exhibiting undesirable faith. merely write to them to cancel the settlement and then write on your financial company to cancel the direct debit charge. in the event that they decline to correctly known the cancellation and demand which you reside for something of the term then you rather would desire to have a case to sue them for breach of settlement - yet do not guess on it. If greater human beings have been keen to alter ISP while they grant undesirable provider then the factors could imporve. yet sueing isn't an option, you do not have a conceivable case. we at the instant are not the litigonous society of the united states of america the place they bypass to courtroom for the main trivial of reasons.

Sue them........... and change your phone line supplier! I think you have a good case. It's a bit like a bank telling all and sundry each time you have an overdraft.
