I say "Thunder Road" the movie(starring Robert Mitchum) was a major disappointment, but the theme song (Thunder Road) sung by Robert Mitchum is awesome. Also, the movie "Cleopatra" with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton (which I thought was a decent movie)was considered a flop by critics. But the soundtrack album is awesome. Whaddya think?

"Flash Gordon" 's entire soundtrack was better than the film; the same goes for "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

For just the theme song, "Live And Let Die", "The Spy Who Loved Me", and "Convoy."

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Ennio Morricone. Even people who've never seen this movie know the music. The music, itself, is legendary!

Other less notorious ones...

Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves - Michael Kamen.
Kevin Costner = ouch. But the score (and Alan Rickman) are great.

Hook - John Williams.
Forgettable film to many, unforgettable music for me.

The Legend of Zorro - James Horner.
The Mask of Zorro was a great ride. This one is meh. But the music is adrenaline.

While it's not as well known, the movie "The Happening" (1967) starring Anthony Quinn was considered to be a flop. However, its theme song, "The Happening" by the Supremes, was a huge success.

Tommy, the rock opera. The movie sucked, but most of the music, by The Who and other rock musicians making cameo appearances, was pretty good.
