I need some help with my dad. about a year ago he was having chest pains and went to the doctor who immediatly scheduled him a stress test...during the stress test the tredmill was going too fast and he started to have the first signs of a heart attack..he was taken to a larger hospital and had to undergo immediate surgery to remove the blockage and have a stint put in, he also had a catherization. it was manditory that he be on a blood thinner for at least a year while the stint is in, and hes reacted to every known blood thinner...plavix, tilcid? others, and refuses to take them or even asprin, becaquse it ''bothers'' his stomach. so hes not taking anything. and he refuses to have another catherization done because of the pain and he believes its made him worse in the first place. he jumps to conclusions alot when he dosent know the whole story, verbally attacks anyone who dare oppose to what he says. he snores so bad that my mom is forced to sleep on the couch, and is fed up.

he also dosent eat very healthy and wont take vitamins etc., as soon as hes home from work hes in front of the TV playing his electronic solitare game, my mom cant talk to him because everything turns into an argument. she goes to work, comes home and does nothing but housework, and dosent want any relatives over for visiting anymore. she usually gets done with housework at 9 pm even though there never is much besides laundry. my dad occasionally says out loud "i aint gonna make it much longer, maybe 6 months". hes 44! and wont eat healthy because "its too expensive" we can only afford box meals, chips, pop, macaroni and cheese, etc.

Sounds like the snoring is the least of this families worries. If your dad refuses to discuss this with the members of the family then perhaps your mom should approach the family doctor and inform him of how your dad refuses to take his meds. The doctor would know far better than any strangers on line here and will actually be familiar with your dads history etc. So my suggestion would be to approach him. Good luck to you, your family and especially your dad.

Let me tell you a little about my story real quick so you know where I'm coming from. And this is not meant to upset you in anyway. I'm 22 years old and my dad past away 2 years ago. He had 16 minor heart attacks and didn't know it he thought it was just indegestion. He had a stint put in and all of that. He was stubborn (which your dad sounds like also) and he never really went to the doctor unless something was really bothering him. Well around Christmas time of 2004 he was feeling sick and he ended up having a heart attack in his sleep and he never woke up. I won't go into to much detail with that but when we talked to the doctor he said that he had told my father to schedule an appointment to have a stress test done again but my dad was going to wait till after the holidays. My father also had sleep apnia which he would snore really loud. The uvula(the thing that hangs down in the back of your throat) would fall down in his air way and it would cause him to wake up and he would do that ever 5 minutes or so. His body realized this so he could fall into an R.E.M sleep(which normally take about 45 min) in about 15 min. He had surgery to take that out but he still continued to snore so I'm not sure about that one.

If your father won't take his medicine I strongly urge you to talk to the doctor about it and find out what can be done. If the medicine upsets his stomach tell the doctor that and he may be able to find something different for him. I don't know if your dad has tried this or not but try taking different foods with the medicine(if your allowed to eat with it) and see if that helps any. But I would say you or your mother can talk to the doctor about it and then see how to get things going from there.

I hope that this helps and I don't want to scare you or anything I just thought that maybe telling you my story would help you out. Good luck with everything and please keep me updated.

Hope

thats sort of what happened with my dad. My mom and dad got divorced and he died about 3 months ago...he didn't take care of himself. I'm not gonna say that will happen in your situation but just try to get him to take care of himself...idk what you can do about everything else...sorry
hope it gets better...
