I am only like six weeks pregnant but everytime I cook, I get sick. The smells of foods I used to love gross me out. All I can do is eat fast food but that is not healthy. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions as to how to get around it?

It's nice to know I'm not alone!!! I am 9 weeks and 1 day pregnant with twins and I cannot handle the smell of meat! My doctors say that food aversions in early pregnancy are completely normal. I have been making a lot of smoothies and milkshakes to get nutritients. I can handle cheese a lot of the time and toast with peanut butter. Just make sure you're taking your multivitamin. I also have found the key is NOT letting yourself get too hungry. Good luck! This too shall pass.

Hey, When I was pregnant I got sick every time I cooked and everytime anyone else cooked until I was like 6 months. Whenever I cooked I'd open a window or go sit outside for a minute the air seemed to help with my sickness!!!

Your nose and sense of smell increase tremendously when you are pregnant. Try to eat raw veggies and fruits so that you don't have to cook so much. If you can get someone else to cook for your family then do so. It's probably a phase you're going through, but then again it might not be. Your hormones do some really wacky things in the first trimester.

Good luck!

Yes, I was very sensitive to the smell of food. And some things that used to smell good to me suddenly smelled horrid. For instance, I had this dish soap that was my favorite brand. It smelled liked peaches. When I got pregnant, suddenly it smelled exactly like dirty mildewed socks!
And the smell of pork chops cooking would almost make me throw up.
I don't know why this happens, but pregnancy sure did a number on my sense of smell. Good news though, it went back to normal after about 4 months.

I'm 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I haven't cooked since I been pregnant. I don't have the energy or drive to prepare anything. Try preparing small light meals. I.E. Salads...Fruit salads...cereal. crackers. If this is your first pregnancy u can get away with it because you won't have to worry about cooking meals for other kids. Good luck!

I am 10 weeks and I experience nausea when I cook, or smell food or anything of that sort.

Yes, with me it was only the smell of meat cooking and only with my first pregnancy (not an issue in the following two). If you are lucky it will go away after the first three months.

My husband had to do all of the cooking while I was in the bedroom with the door closed. If I was home alone and needed to it it was sandwiches, soup and salads!

Best of luck just remember it won't last forever.....CONGRATS on your pregnancy!

YES! I was sooo sick my first 12 weeks......I actually put on a painters mask while cooking! My hubby took a pic of it too! Great for the baby book! I had a very hard time not throwing up and eating. Sucking on hard candy really helps too.

No suggestions other than drink a lot of water to help in your nausea. May I recommend the book, "What to expect when expecting" - its a REALLY good book. Its a easy read. It has some great suggestions during your first trimester.
