How do I make money placing ads on my site? Which services work?

Question

I am thinking of buying a domain name and creating a new web site. I've got lots of content and, while the design is pretty plain and basic, I suspect it will get moderate traffic. (Maybe 1,000 hits a month would be my initial goal.)

If I want to advertise on this site, what is my best way to do it? Google Adsense? IndustryBrains? Advertise.com?

I've heard a lot of people have had their google adsense terminated if they get too many clicks. I'm not going to cheat, but I don't want to be ripped off. Any positive experiences with google?

What about other companies?

Also--- I have no idea how much you get paid per click on these places. Would I even make any money doing this? (The site will go up with or without ads-- but if possible, it would be nice to make some money too.)

Publishers get kicked out of Google because they fail to follow the Program Policies and guidelines set by the program. It is NOT TRUE that Google will kick you out if you get too many clicks -- afterall, Google earns more if you earn more. So why will they kick a cashcow if your site is getting a lot of clicks? It does not make sense. But if they catch you getting a lot of clicks because you cheated, or in their words, you generated "invalid clicks" -- which can cover anything from begging your visitors to click on ads to labeling the ads other than the phrases allowed to clicking on your own ads -- then you can get terminated.

I have been with Google Adsense since June 2003, and I earn 5-digits a month from the program. I even have a Google Adsense sales rep contacting me and giving me optimization tips to even improve my earnings, and I am participating in various beta programs they are testing.

As to what advertising program will do well for you, it's hard to determine. In my case, Adsense gives me about 80% of my income compared to only 2% of my total income that comes from banner ad networks I use such as Burst Media and Value Click. Banner ad networks are merely drop in the bucket change compared to the hefty Adsense income

But the thing online is that your mileage may vary than mine. I know of a lot of site that earns more from banner ad networks and affiliate programs, while their Adsense can barely earn for them $100 a month.

Your income in various types of advertising depends on the type of website you have, the content, the visitors you attract, the level of traffic, and the placement and prominence of which types of ads. So will the price per click -- it is so hard to predict because different topics have different numbers of advertisers and competitiveness in bidding. A mortgage information site showing mortgage ads will generate higher pay per click compared to a dating website where the ads are cheaper.

My advice is to diversify your revenue sources. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Use various types of ad revenue sources from banner ads to contextual ads to affiliate programs

What kind of website? What is it with adsense that seems unreliable? I think Yahoo has something similar. You could always do like so many other sites and fill yours up with affiliate marketing ads. Yuck!

Adsense. And dont' worry about too many clicks. Trust me, you won't get a lot of hits. And the pay-per-click? Somewhere between a fraction of a cent and a nickel would be my guess.

try google.com/ads and make an advertisement section on your site, and whenever people click on the advertisement, you get money ($.05, maybe) if it gets over clicked, they get suspicious and remove it, though if your website sucks, you will get no body to advertise
