I got mine done a week ago. I was pretty nervous when I went in but the piercer reassured me that its not the sorest piercing to get.(i have my nipple done too and she told me that that was waay worse!!) First she checked my tongue for hidden veins and then made me rinse with mouthwash. She marked where she was going to put the needle and then she put this liquid on my tongue which made it go numb. Then she put a clamp on it. She then put the needle through it and took it out again. I dont have a very high pain barrier but it didnt hurt that much at all, it was over before I knew it! She put the barbell in and it was all over. After she told me how to care for it, like rinsing with salt and water twice a day and with alcohol free mouthwash 6 times a day. And how I was to avoid smoking, alcohol and kissing people for a few weeks!
My tongue was quite tender that day and it only started to swell about 6 hours after I got it pierced. I had to eat soups and smoothies for about 2 days and then moved onto soft food like pasta and after 5 days I could go back to eating all foods. I followed the lady's instructions and now 7 days later, its not swollen and it doesnt hurt at all!!

People often say that it's the sorest one and tell you horror stories about what can happen (I was told I could end up growing a second tongue) but as long as you look after it and follow the aftercare instructions you will be fine!

I got mine done a few years ago and was exactly the same as you! I thought it would really hurt and heard some real horror stories about it. In the end I just went for it. I was sat down in a chair the man put a small plastic grip on my tongue, small bit of anaesetic gel and then just did it. It took less than a couple of seconds and didn't hurt at all. It felt strange for the first few hours and was slightly swollen for a couple of days but was nothing to worry about. If you really want to get it done, my only advise would be make you sure get a reputable piercing company and carry a spare tongue with you for a while. You'll be fiddling with it until you get used to it and may loosen the stud and swallow it!

If you want it, go for it. You can always take it out if you don't like it or have problems with it. I had mine done awhile back. It hurts when they pierce it and it hurts for a few days after that but I thought it was worth it. I had to take mine out because it rested too close to my bottom teeth and was rubbing away the gums back there. So if you have a short tongue you might wanna be careful. Best of luck! It's a really cool piercing. Just make sure to rinse your mouth with salt water or Listerine ALOT for a couple weeks.

i got mine done over a year ago and have had no problems with it.It nips a bit when you 1st get it done and you talk with a lisp for a while but once it settles down and you get the shorter bar put in it's great. If you're worried about the balls damaging your teeth, you can get plastic ones that are less harmfull or get a flat stud so it sits flush against your tongue. The only way a piercing can get infected is if you handle it with dirty hands or dont clean it enough. But because your mouth has more germs in it than anywhere else on your body, clean it regularly.
Try sucking on ice cubes to ease the swelling and discomfort and eat soup or mushy food for the 1st couple of days until you get used to the bar.Avoid french kissing and oral sex for at least a month. If you've got a boyfriend,he's going to love you forever as oral sex using a pierced tongue is meant to be amazing!

I got mine done last march, just for fun. i kept asking the lady "is it going to hurt?" and she kept saying "no" sure enough it didn't. they start by making you swish with listerine, do this for as long a possible it is what makes you "numb", then they drawing a dot on your tongue for "placement", they then place the clamp on there then put the needle through. it did not hurt me at all, before i could say ouch it was done. do ask around though for recommendations on a good place, even if you have to pay $20.00 more, believe me, you get what you pay for. the only trouble i ever had with mine was the next day trying to eat, i had to push the food to the side of my mouth to chew it. that was kind of crummy, but it only lasted maybe 2 days. the lady that did mine recommended sonic's ice to suck on afterwards.... it was such a good experience, i am considering getting my eyebrow done to....good luck, email me if you have anymore questions.

yes it hurts..how could having a largeish piece of metal rammed through your tongue with no anaesthethic not hurt? ;)
It will swell up for a few days and you wont be able to lick your lips properly and will speak with a lisp and dribble a lot for a couple of weeks. Most people iknow with it done were on soup for a week or two but i was munching a cheeseburger the next day so everyones different in how long it hurts for.

I had mine numbed so it dind't hurt but my b/f got no anaesthetic and says the actual piercing was painless. Its the 3-4 days after when its swollen that kinda hurt but nothing unbearable.

However, I wouldn't get it done as its a bit naff now. When you see middle aged women off the local council estate with it, you know its over!

NO! I got my belly pierced and it got infected. It healed, but it was painful for a while. Also it hurt awful to get done. Think how much more worse the tongue would be. Also, what if you choked on the piercing?
