It's ridiculous to have a Martin Luther King day. It exists for political correctness.

Martin Luther King was a modern day Martyr. I am black and I am still waiting for this preferential treatment that you speak of. The constitution states that ALL MEN were created equal. The problem was that America needed to be shown that a man is still a man despite his color, race or sexuality. It was Martin Luther King vs the whole united states of america. I am very glad that despite the danger he chose to be the spokes person for such indignities.

I don't know who King Luther is - Scandinavian or German, perhaps?
Martin Luther King, Jr., however, does deserve a holiday. It is NOT "preferential" treatment for blacks, it's recognition of his important role in the advancement of what our Constitution stated (even though the author may not have lived it): "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...." As John Adams (one of the nation's founding fathers, our second president, signer of the Declaration of Independence) stated, we may not be of equal social standing or created with equal intelligence, but we should all be treated equally under the laws of our nation. Recognizing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s role in advancing this ideal in our nation is important for it to become real in our daily lives. Idealistic? Perhaps, but isn't that what honoring historical/religious figures in our history is all about?

So now eating at the same restaurants and using the same water fountains as white people is preferential treatment? Preferential compared to who, dogs? Sheesh.

Who is King Luther???????????
Do you mean Martin Luther King?
I'm not entirely sure that he deserves a holiday, but you should at least learn enough history to ask the correct question!
Have you read enough about US history to learn about the slavery abuses? Are you knowlegable about the "separate but equal" hypocrisy enacted by the US Congress? Just what do your teachers teach you in school????

Martin Luther King deserved to lead a full life rather than be murdered before he could have been even more a positive force for change, for all of our society.
The holiday will bring him to mind, for many, for only one day in each year. He deserved more than that.
We are honoring a great man in a small way. Putting his ideas into practice honors him more. Try.

You mean Martin Luther King, Jr.? Yes, he does.
If you are going to pathetically attempt to degrade the man at least get his name right.
