I want to test a new version of Quickbooks to see if it suits my company's needs. If I install it in the same drive the current version is in, it might create a conflict. That's why I want to install it in another directory. Does it make sense? How do I accomplish this?

you want to install another version of a program already installed on the same computer without messing up the latter? typically, most programs will detect another version of it and alert you, they also let you choose the installation folder/drive, some just overwrite the older version. Sure, you can choose another folder on which to install but the if it writes to the registry, chances are it will screw the old program entries. it may or may not have drastic effect on the old program but if you want to try make sure you have the installation disc of the old program just in case or just install in another computer.

Its difficult to do that, because the program will want to update the existing program(I believe). If you want to make another directory, go to the spot in the hard drive, right click, and hit new folder.

But aside from that if the program wont let you because it knows you have a copy, you will have to go into the registry and delete the QUickbooks(which could cause problems if you dont backup the entries)[Which, is all a little more complicated than I want to give you] entry to make it think its not there. Either that or just save the files from the old on and then try the new one...

Whatever floats your boat.

Anywhere you want create a new directory with windows explorer or from a command prompt.

On windows explorer, navigate to where you would like the folder and right mouse click to create a new folder.
